The 2018 Beauty West Africa will play host to top beauty brands from across the continent, Tokunbo Chiedu, CEO, Compass Consulting has announced.
According to her, Compass Consulting is organising the beauty exhibition in partnership with B2B events. The three-day conference and exhibition will take place at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island in November 2018.
“Nigeria is key for businesses, explains Chiedu, and we are talking about a global industry that is valued at N400 billion strong. We are passionate about bringing education to local businesses through Beauty West Africa. The event will facilitate the connection our industry needs with the global beauty industry.”
Chiedu further explained that the first day of the conference is dedicated to demonstration. “We have the first two days created as business development, business oriented. We are trying to focus on the business part of it. When you say you are a makeup artiste, some people will not take you seriously if you are not well positioned as a strong brand. Things just started changing now because some brands that we know are now formidable forces to reckon with.
Citing Lagos as an example, Chiedu argues that there is need for more technical colleges.
“Lagos State is adopting the method of technical college to empower and train people. We need more expertise in the technical space. So, our conferences will have masterclasses and business development-oriented topics for discussion. The first day we will be talking about Agro processing for beauty, retail distribution, because a lot people don’t know how to handle the business side of their makeup venture. But there are some Nigerian case studies that have built formidable retail structures and distribution all over Nigeria.”
On his part Jamie Hill, managing director, B2B, says talks are ongoing to engage everyone involved in the value chain in the beauty industry.
“We are having conversations with trade associations in Lagos from Balogun to Trade Fair. We have been having grassroots discussions to get most Nigerians and small businesses involved. Because to be honest, it just cannot be that we are coming to showcase brands, it will not last if we don’t have a value for it.”
