FUNKE OSAE-BROWN
The morning sun shines in its full strength on a warm Saturday morning in November. The rays of the sun fall brilliantly on the white coloured Rolls Royce Ghost and Wraith cars parked in front of The Patisserie Café at Banana Island Estate, Ikoyi.
It is in an upscale environment like this that luxury cars like the Rolls Royce brand can be found. The quiet sprawling estate played host to media men and women who were there to truly experience the Rolls Royce Motor Cars. It was the Drive Experience organised by Rolls Royce Motor Cars Limited for Lifestyle and Motoring journalists in Nigeria.
Among the fleet parked is the upscale very traditional Rolls Royce Phantom, the sleek modern Wraith and the effervescent Ghost.
The Wraith for most journalists who were there has an effortless cool appearance that complements the superior bespoke interior, audio system and the general design of the car. The contemporary use of copper complements the entire interior as it creates an atmospheric setting for the most encompassing car one can get on the market.
The copper exterior paint finish, presented with a blend of brushed and polished textures elegantly hints at the use of copper in the very best luxury car ever seen. On opening the car’s coach-doors, Lola Aminu of This Day, exclaims at the sheer beauty before her. She was drawn in by the detailed posh interior furnishing.
“This is truly a luxury car,” she says as she sits behind the wheel. “I love the close attention to detail. The air conditioning system is just perfect for a tropical weather like ours. This copper detailing is also cool and the quality of the leather for the seats says a lot about who the car is designed for.”

“The Rolls-Royce Wraith is striking and distinctive car among the bespoke collections launched by the brand in 2015,” explains Tolu, Gbadamosi, brand manager Rolls Royce Motor Cars at Coscharis Motors while explaining the mechanics behind the cars on the first day of the drive. “The Wraith celebrates the brand’s long-standing love with luxury. It was designed to be truly modern.”
Chuks Nwanne of the Guardian Newspapers could not agree less. He was also in love with the Wraith. He likes the door panniers and floor mats that have been crafted from finely-woven leather to add an additional depth of tactility to the car’s interior cabin. He also loves the copper-coloured door inserts, which start at the front of the cabin before tapering at the rear, have been included in the design to emphasise Wraith’s characteristic internal curves.
In addition, Nwanne says he loves the Ghost. He tells me that the best way to enjoy the Ghost is to drive it. “I could tell it is a car with an unusual power and verve, with a V12 engine. I drive a car with a V8 engine and I know how it drives on the road. To now experience a V12 engine car, it was an amazing experience.”
