Access Bank has her progressive hand, yet again, in support for arts in Nigeria. This time, the corporate giant has successfully backed another franchise, ALARA for the launch of globally renowned footwear and accessories designer, Christian Louboutin, in West Africa. This exclusive event was held on Saturday, November 19th, 2016, at the ALARA concept store in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
ALARA was created by Reni Folawiyo, and the luxury outlet is rapidly becoming a fashion destination for Nigerians and Westerners alike. According to ‘The Business of Fashion, 2016,’ it offers a mix of fashion, art and design in a similar style to global concept stores like Paris’ Colette, London’s Dover Street Market and Milan’s 10 Corso Como. It stocks a range of western designers including Stella McCartney, Dries Van Noten, Marni and Valentino. Alongside this, Folawiyo looks to champion Nigerian design, stocking the work of Maki Oh, Lanre de Silva Ajayi and Tiffany Amber.
The event began at 7pm and guests were tastefully treated to a lavish cocktail, good music and a particularly sonorous performance by Godwin Strings, the Nigerian Violinist, accompanied by two South African dancers. The beautifully adorned host, Reni Folawiyo, thanked everyone for coming over before briefly expressing her delight at the pioneering feat. She also affirmed her relentlessness in promoting contemporary art and fashion in Lagos.
The Lagos store displays its ethos of carrying modern luxury in Africa; and features an intricate exhibit-style architecture designed by world-acclaimed architect David Adjaye. The launch party, themed ‘ALARA Rouge’, recreated a night at the Moulin Rouge in Paris. The store was transformed into a French cabaret house, featuring strong elements of French culture while guests were treated to a truly unique experience as they explored the new Louboutin collection.
In all, this landmark event further establishes Access Bank as a generous supporter of the development of art and fashion in Nigeria.
