Her petite shape makes her noticeable in the crowd. The strength of her voice says a lot about the kind of woman she is. Florence Hungbo is a remarkably creative woman who has her hands in many creative ventures. She runs Bodex Media which comprises her blog (bodexng.com), Onlive TV (Bodex TV) then Bodex Beauty House that is into handmade foot wears and customised lush slippers.
Her bespoke customised slippers come under her brand, Bodex Beauty House with speciality in branded foot wears, interior decoration and lots more.
“My branded foot wears idea was gotten from my branded cake presentation during birthdays,” she says. “What I am trying to say is that I give out branded cake which is designed with Bodexng logo and celebrant’s picture just to standout plus the branded cake.”
While making customised cakes for notable personalities like former Ogun state governor, Gbenga Daniel, Tiwa Savage, BankyW, Olamide, Ushbebe, LilKesh, Hungbo thinks she can present them with a more lasting gift than cake.
“I was like people will finish the cake,” she recalls, “and then go to toilet. I told myself I need to come out with something that will last and will create more publicity for my brand more than the cake. So I made some lush slippers with my name on it to cover shows instead of promoting foreign designers.”
Bodex customised slippers have graced the feet of many celebrities and royal fathers in Nigeria.
She has made the slippers for the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, celebrity bloggers, Linda Ikeji and CKN, comedian Ali Baba and Koffi, Nollywood actor Segun Arinze and many others.
“Many celebrities now wear my handmade lush slippers and shoes. After the success of the first ones I made, people started placing orders to have their names on my handmade lush slippers. I have clients from USA, Dubai, UK, Germany, Indian and all over Nigeria who are wearing Bodex BeautyHhouse handmade lush slippers and shoes. People are still ordering as at the time of this interview.”
Through simple yet painstaking process, Hungbo carefully piece the materials together to make interesting foot wears.
“It’s a big secret,” she explains. “I get the required materials needed namely: Velvet for making the slippers. Maico 8 for the inner part of the foot wear which I cover with the velvet. Figure 8 which is used for the sole. After making the palm, I will take it to where I will make the branding of the names with the materials needed, which is the glitters.
“To make the slippers, I need to measure the upper length/breath and also get the client’s size. I need gum to stick the pieces together after cutting them to the required shapes and sizes I want to make. The upper is the one that has the name on it. While the sitting is the one that has the “Bodex” on it or the branded name tag.”
